What is the PERFECT workout

the PERFECT WORKOUT PLAN
I get a few emails a day from people asking me advice on what the best workout is or what they should do.
They want to know if our Bootcamp is the perfect workout plan, or if they should be doing P90x, Insanity, Crossfit,Orange Theory, ninja training, A 5K app, Yoga, powerlifting, a bodybuilding routine, or more and more cardio.. etc… and of course that is followed by "what should I eat?" Unfortunately, all programs tend to present different information, require different things of you physically, and make an effort to present themselves as superior to all other training routines.
So, if you know me, you know I have a nice little answer for that...but it might not be as full of my unique sense of humor as you might think....normally I answer with something they probably don’t want to hear...
"Ummm, let me ask YOU a question before I answer....what it YOUR goal?"
This is what you should really be trying to answer first
The BEST workout and nutrition plan is the plan that you actually follow through and stick with....and the reason you stick with it, is because it is meeting your goals...
The best coaching, training plan, and/or diet plan based on your dietary needs doesn’t mean ANYTHING if you don’t actually follow through with it.....but if you don't even know what your goal is...you will get no where real quick...
and here is where we begin to dismiss a lot of programs....
If you enjoy participating in 7 different methods of structured exercise, that's ok...you can do pilates Monday, Zumba on Wednesday and Crossfit on Friday...enjoy :-) but does this meet your goal?...it might...but does it?
No one in our Bootcamp is training there to get better a competitive figure skating or long distance running...that is just not what we do
So...Who is Your Daddy and What Does He Do?

What is your goal..... is what you want to answer first and the BEST way to get there can be outlined right after...

Feeling Tired? Fatigued? Un-Motivated?

Hey there ABF (Awesome Bootcamp Family)

It happens to everyone...

You feel Tired, Fatigued, and Un-Motivated?

I have 21 people in our 21 Day Detox and most of them are feeling or have felt this. When changing your diet from a normal American diet to a healthy clean diet, you may experience headaches and fatigue and of course CONSTIPATION. I highly recommend supplements like Pro X 10 to help cleanse your body and organs so that your body absorbs more nutrients properly. Trust me, when you're all backed up, you'll be wishing you listened to me earlier..you can read more about Pro X 10 here

But those people are on the right path....they are eating better and exercising...the tiredness and fatigue will go away...

How about the ones not eating well...I can guarantee if you do NOT put quality food in your mouth...your body will NOT perform well

But did you know...the NOT exercising will cause ALL of these things too?

Here are 5 ways that inactivity increases fatigue.
1- Sleep difficulties. The relentless demands of modern life lead our bodies to produce excess cortisol, a stress hormone linked to insomnia. Excess cortisol comes at the expense of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that regulates sleep. For a better night’s sleep, you therefore need to reduce cortisol and increase serotonin. The best way to accomplish both simultaneously is through exercise. But if you prefer to sit all day in front of your TV and computer screens, you might be up watching longer than you’d like! Your out of balance biochemicals will retaliate and give you (another?) sleepless night. When getting a good night’s sleep is difficult, feeling energetic the next day becomes one big challenge.
2- Frail muscles. When it comes to muscle mass and strength, the motto “use it or lose it” definitely applies. People who are injured and have a limb immobilized start losing muscle cells as quickly as 6 hours after immobilization. Since muscle is a powerful calorie-consumer, consuming between 50 to 75 times more calories than fat does, lower muscle mass easily leads to weight gain. More importantly, less muscle mass makes anything slightly physical require more effort. Imagine how difficult it is for someone who has excess weight and weak muscles to carry that weight around just to get in and out of the car, go shopping, carry the groceries up a few steps and into the house and unload the purchases into the fridge. Ouf! I’m tired just thinking about it!
3- Weak cardio-vascular performance. The heart is a muscle. Like other muscles, it atrophies with lack of exertion. A weaker heart pumps a smaller volume of blood with each beat, requiring more beats to do the same work. Sedentary people therefore tend to have higher heart rates and lower oxygen consumption than active individuals. Since the body needs oxygen to transform nutrients into energy, with lower oxygenation comes lower energy. Along with higher heart rates comes fatigue. It’s a lot of extra work for your heart!
4- Poor nutrition. Physical activity helps balance cortisol and serotonin. These two biochemicals have a lot to do with food consumption. Indeed, people with higher cortisol levels tend to look for quick feel-good boosts easily found in sugary and fatty foods. With low serotonin, cravings peak and are harder to control. In other words, inactivity combines two very important ingredients that can lead to overeating. In the short term, overeating will require a lot of your precious energy for digestive purposes. It will also bring your sugar levels on a roller-coaster ride that will leave you feeling depleted within the hour. Over the long run, overeating leads to weight gain, which increases fatigue by forcing you to spend more energy for everything you do.
5- Low morale. This one is quite intuitive, but let me explain it just the same. Through its impact on biochemicals, physical activity is known to reduce stress, depression, and anger. It simultaneously elevates mood, self-esteem, and energy levels. Comparatively speaking, sedentary people are therefore less likely to be emotionally healthy than active individuals. More and more research is showing that inactivity is likely to bring about feelings of emotional exhaustion, physical tiredness, and overall lousiness.

3 Weird Memorial Day BBQ Tip

By Kevin DiDonato MS, CSCS, CES

It's summer time and you know what that means: Barbecues!

There is just something special about hearing the sizzle of the meat…

The taste of roasted veggies…

And, of course, the time spent with family and friends.

But what you may not know is that meat that you are about to serve to your guests may be filled with cancer-causing chemicals….

Grilling Meat and Health
Typically, you think of grilling as a great way to cut down on the fat, and make your meal healthier.

But a recent study shows, when the juices or fat from the meat drips down and hits the hot coals, it produces a chemical – called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH).

PAH has been shown to cause cancer and other negative health impacts.

By grilling your meat and letting the juices run free, you run the risk of destroying not only your health - but everyone’s you’re grilling for.

So what can you do?

Here are THREE ways to cut down on dangerous PAH exposure…

1. Wrap It Up
If you want to cut down on PAH exposure, then you should wrap your meat in tinfoil before placing it on the grill.

This will prevent the juices and fat from falling onto the hot coals, and exposing you to this dangerous carcinogen.

Plus, it will create soft and tender meat that EVERYONE will enjoy!

2. Cook MORE Fish
Fish is a perfect food that should be INCREASED in everyone’s diet and cooks much faster than red meat does.

This decreases the amount of PAH that is produced, therefore reducing your overall exposure.

Besides that, fish such as salmon, mackerel, and other fatty fish, contain high levels of omega-3 fatty acids – like the kind in EFA Icon Krill oil – that may give you a double shot of health benefits.

3. Cook On the OPPOSITE End
If you really want to reduce PAH exposure, then you should cook with gas.  However, if you MUST cook with charcoal, here is a bit of advice: move all the charcoal to one end and cook your food on the opposite end.

This will allow the juices to fall harmlessly below without hitting the hot coals, therefore cutting down on your exposure to PAH.

Three Ways to Create a Healthy BBQ
Summer time is the perfect time to get outside and BBQ with friends and family.

So be sure to include these THREE tips and significantly reduce your exposure to PAH.

This will keep you and your guests healthier and coming back for more!

3 reasons you’re not losing fat

Hey Everyone

Rafael here, from South Florida Fitness Bootcamp

You already know that you can’t out train a bad diet. That’s why you need a recipe, a plan to dice up your abs so you’ll feel confident to be seen on the beach. And it’s MORE than just a workout plan.

If you just “workout”, you could actually increase your cortisol, which will force your body to store more fat. You don’t want that.

You see it all the time. People work their butts off (figuratively that is, because at the end of the day their flabby butt is still there). They train and wonder ‘why am I not getting lean?’

Let me tell you why…three reasons:

#1 Backward Body Composition

People just like you and I trade fat for muscle as we age. This tanks our metabolism because our muscle is metabolically active while fat is dead ugly weight.

Unfortunately, it’s easier to lose muscle than it is to lose fat. Our bodies PREFER to use lean muscle tissue for energy over our belly fat.

But with a strategic combination of high intensity interval training, strength training and a nutrition plan that works synergistically with these workouts, you can actually force your body to harness belly fat as energy buy putting your metabolism into Afterburn.

#2 Hormone Havoc

Fat storing hormones like cortisol wreak havoc with belly fat and in today’s high stress world this hormone is at an all time high. Hormones that can promote fat burning like growth hormone and testosterone (women should have a healthy level of testosterone as well) decline with age but can be naturally boosted with the right kind of exercise. (This does NOT include things like running on the treadmill that actually increase fat storing hormones like cortisol.)

#3 Poor Eating

No matter what your exercise plan, if you’re not backing it up with solid nutritionally dense food, your plan will fail. And when it comes to eating, failing to plan is planning to fail, especially when your diet is too restrictive.

That’s why my friend, Shawna K who is more ripped and in better shape than most 20-year olds (she’s 50!), included her Challenge Fat Loss Nutrition Tactics along with her Challenge Fat Loss program that uses a brand NEW M2A method.

Other diet plans are too restrictive and don’t allow any wiggle room. Now when you use a combination Shawna’s workouts that manipulate your hormones to promote fat loss and her nutrition tactics to speed up your metabolism, you’ll see rapid results, no matter your age – Shawna is living proof.

Her workouts are only 20 minutes long, which is why they work so well. They promote the “good” hormones, while reducing the fat-storing hormones like cortisol because the workouts are so short.

However, they STILL use a combination of high intensity interval training and strength training. How is this possible? It’s because she uses M2A, which is a new science-based approach that allows you to work out in only 20 minutes but still getting results as if you worked out for 60 minutes.

When you team up M2A (Muscle Metabolism Acceleration) along with her nutrition tactics, you’re in for a total body transformation.

But it won’t be easy…

This is a workout program that will challenge you every step of the way, but in progressive ways. Best of all Shawna is going to be there with you through every exercise, every set, and ever rep right there with you to motivate, coach and guild you along.

You’ll make small manageable changes to your eating plan and you’ll use the M2A system to build lean, athletic muscle and naturally increase fat burning hormones like GH and testosterone and reduce fat storing hormones like cortisol…

… in only 20 minutes per workout!

It’s scientifically based and proven. And this week, you can get all of Shawna’s M2A workouts and her Challenge Fat Loss Nutrition Tactics for half off.

#1 fat burning workout in South Florida

Happy Monday Everyone

This may be the most awesome things I've stumbled upon to help my clients burn more fat and get into shape faster.

But before I get into that, let me just assure everyone that changes in time won't affect our workout schedule, so if you are coming to the park tonight, we have worked out in the rain, with wind, with sun...a little bitty thing like it being drk won't stop us

Now let me explain...

I've been testing out a new training program for my clients that not only burns more calories while they're working out with me - but it keeps burning extra calories even after their workout.

Sounds crazy, right?

The post workout calorie burn is actually called "after burn" and it only takes place when a few critical factors are accomplished during the workout.

I won't bore you with the details of the science behind "after burn", but what I can tell you is that if these few critical things are done during your workout, then you can expect to have an elevated metabolism for up to 18 hours AFTER your workout.

Pretty sweet!

Now, just the "after burn" factor is amazing in itself because it's almost like getting twice the workout results from each workout.

B-U-T I figured out a way where I can get my clients even FASTER results... and it has NOTHING to do with science.

Say what?!

Yep, this other way of burning more fat and getting faster muscle toning results has nothing to do with exercise science at all.

It's actually all about human psychology...

See, what I figured out was when I train my client in a group setting they actually workout harder.
(human nature is to compete I guess)

So then I got to thinking and decided that if I can put together a body transformation challenge where I can train my clients in a group, for a period of time (six weeks), and give the person with the best transformation a prize (like one a kindle fire) then you'd really see amazing results!

Makes sense, right?

My special "after burn" producing workouts + a body transformation challenge = massive fat loss, body toning, belly flattening, and sexy arms, legs and butt.

Brilliant!

In fact here's what I expect AVERAGE results to be on this six week body transformation challenge.

Men can expect to drop 25 – 32 pounds of fat Women can expect to drop 12-24 pounds of fat

AND...

on average men can expect to lose: 6.5 inches from their waist and women can expect to lose 4.8 inches from their waist

Yes, all this in six weeks.

Here's the deal: I'm going to launching this Six Week Body Transformation Challenge in about a week (11/11/13) as soon as I get back from my Fire walking experience. And when I do I'm only going to take on 18 participants so that I can give every participant lots of attention.

And at the end of the six week transformation challenge (which will be right before Christmas) I'm giving the winner a new Kindle Fire HD
(actually everyone will win since there's going to be a LOT of inches and pounds lost).

So if you are interested in dropping 5-8 inches off your waist in the next 6 weeks (plus a pile of weight) then send me an email and I will put you on the "action taker" list and reserve your spot.

These action takers will get email notification of the program launch date BEFORE my normal list.

Email me now to get on the awesomeness priority list :)

Get Ready for some AWESOMENESS!

20 Tips For Torching Fat

HEY THERE SOUTH FLORIDA BOOT CAMPERS I have a guest post, from Dr. Jim Stoppani and Simply Shredded

1. Be Multi-Ogranic

Sure, it’s pricier, but organic beef and dairy are worth the extra bucks. U.K. research shows that organic milk has about 70% more omega-3 fatty acids than conventional milk, and a study published in the Journal of Dairy Science found that grass-fed cows produced milk containing 500% more conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) than cows who ate grain.
Since omega-3s and CLA can both help you drop fat as well as gain muscle, it makes sense to shell out the extra cash for organic cheese, cottage cheese, milk, and yogurt as well as grass-fed beef.

2. Slow Down

When you reach for carbs, choose slow-digesting whole grains such as brown rice, oatmeal, and whole-wheat bread, which keep insulin levels low and steady, and prevent insulin spikes from halting fat burning and ramping up fat storage.
A study conducted by researchers at Pennsylvania State University found that men or women following a low-calorie diet with carbs coming only from whole grains lost significantly more abdominal fat than those following a low-calorie diet with carbs from refined sources.

3. Eat Unforbidden Fruit

A study from the Scripps Clinic (San Diego) found that men who ate half a grapefruit or drank 8 ounces of grapefruit juice three times a day lost an average of 4 pounds in 12 weeks, without changing their diet. The effect is likely due to grapefruit’s ability to lower insulin levels, thereby limiting fat storage. To test the effects yourself, try regularly adding half a grapefruit to a few of your daily meals.

4. Egg On You

Eggs are packed with protein and have been shown to promote muscle strength and mass. Research shows that subjects consuming eggs for breakfast not only eat fewer calories throughout the day but also lose significantly more body fat. We recommend eating eggs for breakfast daily, scrambling three whole eggs with three egg whites.

5. Get Fat

Certain fats particularly omega-3s do not lead to fat gain and can actually promote fat loss.
Eating fat to lose fat seems counterintuitive, but if you keep your fat intake at about 30% of your total daily calories by choosing fatty fish such as salmon, sardines, or trout as well as other healthy fat sources such as olive oil, peanut butter, and walnuts, you can actually boost your fat loss when compared with eating a low-fat diet.

6. Milk It

Dairy products are rich in calcium, which can help spur fat loss, particularly around your abs. This may be due to the fact that calcium regulates the hormone calcitriol, which causes the body to produce fat and inhibit fat burning. When calcium levels are adequate, calcitriol and fat production are suppressed while fat burning is enhanced.
Adding low-fat versions of cottage cheese, milk, and yogurt (Greek or plain) to your diet are great ways to boost protein intake and aid fat loss.

7. Go Pro

A high-protein diet not only promotes hypertrophy (muscle growth) but also enhances fat loss. Researchers at Skidmore College found that men who followed a high-protein diet-40% of total daily calories from protein-for eight weeks lost more body fat than those following a low-fat/ high-carb diet. One reason eating more protein may work is that it boosts levels of peptide YY, a hormone that decreases hunger levels.

8. An Apple A Day…

Apples are a great slow-digesting carb with numerous beneficial antioxidants. One group of compounds known as apple polyphenols has been found to boost muscle strength, endurance, and even fat loss, especially around the abs. While apple polyphenols appear to directly improve the body’s ability to burn fat while limiting fat production and storage, the boost in endurance and strength is helpful as well, allowing you to train longer and harder.
A typical large apple provides about 200 milligrams of apple polyphenols and about 30 grams of carbs.

9. Go Nuts

A study from California’s Loma Linda University reported that subjects following a low-calorie, higher-fat diet (40% of total calories from fat) with the majority of fat coming from almonds lost significantly more body fat and abdominal fat in 24 weeks than subjects consuming the same calories but more carbs and less fat. So be sure to include nuts such as almonds, Brazil nuts, macadamia nuts, and walnuts in your diet.

10. Go Green

The main ingredient in green tea, epigal-locatechin gallate [EGCG), inhibits the enzyme that normally breaks down the neurohormone norepinephrine. Nerepinephrine keeps the metabolic rate up, so preventing its breakdown helps you burn more calories throughout the day.
Drinking green tea is a great way to stay hydrated during workouts, according to a new study in the Journal of Nutrition, which reported that subjects drinking green tea while exercising lost significantly more abdominal fat than those drinking a placebo.

11. Whey Lean

Drinking whey protein as a between meal snack is a smart way to enhance not only muscle growth but also fat loss. U.K. researchers found that when subjects consumed a whey protein shake 90 minutes before eating a buffet-style meal, they ate significantly less food than when they consumed a casein protein shake beforehand. Scientists reported that this was due to whey’s ability to boost levels of the hunger blunting hormones cholecystokinin and glucagonlike peptide-1.

12. Go Fish

As mentioned in tip No. 5, the essential omega-3 fats in fish oil promote fat loss, which is enhanced with exercise.
This is also true for fish-oil supplements containing omega-3 fats. For the best burn, take 1-2g of fish oil at breakfast, lunch and dinner.

13. Add Some Guac

Avocados are full of monounsaturated fat, which isn’t usually stored as body fat. They also contain mannoheptulose, a sugar that blunts insulin release and enhances calcium absorption. Keeping insulin low and getting plenty of calcium is critical for encouraging fat loss.
Try adding a quarter of an avocado to salads and sandwiches.

14. Get Energized

Certain energy drinks have been shown to boost fat loss. University of Oklahoma researchers reported in a 2008 study that when 60 male and female subjects consumed a diet energy drink containing 200mg of caffeine and 250mg of EGCG from green tea extract for 28 days, they lost more than a pound of body fat without changing their diets or exercise habits.

15. Not So Sweet

Even though artificially sweetened drinks are calorie free, drinking too many can hinder your fat loss. It seems that beverages like diet soda mess with your brain’s ability to regulate calorie intake, causing you to feel hungrier than normal, so you eat more total calories.
Other research suggests that the sweet taste of these drinks can increase the release of insulin, which can blunt fat burning and enhance fat storage.

16. Go Even Greener

The majority of studies showing the effectiveness of green tea for fat loss have used green tea extract. One study confirmed that the EGCG from the extract was absorbed better than the EGCG from the tea.
Take about 500mg of green tea extract in the morning and afternoon before meals.

17. In The Black

Green, oolong, and black teas all come from the same plant, but different processing causes black and oolong teas to lose their green color and turn either brown or black. Oolong tea has been shown to enhance metabolic rate due to polyphenols other than EGCG. Black tea may also aid fat loss: Researchers from University College London found that drinking black tea regularly can reduce levels of cortisol, a stress hormone that encourages fat storage especially around the midsection.

18. Be Aqua Man

German researchers have shown that drinking about 2 cups of cold water can temporarily boost metabolic rate by roughly 30%. The effect appears to be mainly due to an increase in norepinephrine.

19. Spice It Up

Hot Peppers contain the active ingredient capsaicin, a chemical that has been shown to promote calorie burning at rest as well as reduce hunger and food intake. Its effects are particularly effective when paired with caffeine-in fact: research shows that the pair can significantly boost fat burning during exercise, Try adding crushed red pepper, hat peppers, or hot pepper sauce to your meals to burn extra calories and fat. If you can’t stand the heat, consider taking a supplement that contains capsaicin instead.

20. Say Soy-Anara To Fat

Soy protein is a proven fat burner. In fact, in a 2008 University of Alabama study, researchers found that guys drinking 20g of soy daily for three months lost a significant amount of abdominal fat.
The effect appears to be due to soy’s ability to decrease hunger levels.
