For the most part, the 80/20 rule is a pretty sweet deal. You get all the body benefits of "clean eating", and can enjoy the occasional, guilt-free indulgence as well. But sometimes, that 20 percent comes back to bite you in the butt, and you wake up feeling headache-y, groggy, bloated—really, kind of hung over. But it wasn’t one too many glasses of wine that did you in, it was one too many bites of cheesecake. What’s up with that?
“A food hangover is your body giving you feedback. Your gut is basically communicating to your brain, sending it a warning signal about what you just ate,” says Robynne Chutkan, M.D.
As crappy as it feels at the time, this reaction is a good thing, she says. “If that didn’t happen, we’d all be devouring Doritos and hamburgers every day. And that’s bad news, not just for your weight, but for the health of your entire body.”
Just as certain alcohols deliver a worse next-day headache (hello, Champagne and whiskey), certain foods are also more hangover-inducing than others, says Chutkan. Namely, anything salty, fatty, and sugar-y or carb-y.
-> This was published in Shape Magazine a few years ago...and I agree with a lot of it..
I have talked to a lot of you this week and a lot of you feel this way...Lais and I did too...so we cleaned up our act right away or what ever that means for us.
The part that I disagree with is that the cause is related to "anything salty, fatty, and sugar-y or carb-y"
See that is not really the problem...the problem is excess without balance.
Let me prove it to you...pick something you would consider healthy or good for you...broccoli or beans or spinach...no start eating 10x the amount you normally would eat...you stomach would respond right away..
Well same thing goes for salt and sugar...if you cut it all out, and then put it in...you are just not going to feel right...
So unless you have a real medical reason for cutting it out...no one that I work with has any of that cut out...
and what that does, is it teaches you body the beauty of balance...so you don't feel bloated the day after having tacos
You don't get gassy or retain water after some ice cream or cake
and that is because everything else is in balance.
IF YOU ARE CUTTING TO MANY THINGS OUT...LIKE RICE OR BREAD OR PASTA OR SUGAR....BASICALLY CARBOHYDRATES....
Every time you put them back in and gain weight you think it's the carbs...and it's not...you are just eating more food...
If you want results, like weight loss, or fat loss, you don't need to cut anything out...you need to know how much of everything would work best for YOU.
Sometimes people struggle with those ideas...I invite you to come to my seminar on January 19th...now, even though this seminar is for people interested in competing in a fitness competition...I want you to hear what the information sounds like...so you can understand that the transformations I will help create this year...do not require any of the craziness or myths or untruths you may have heard.
Maybe you are interested in the TRANSFORMATION with out the competition part....maybe it's for you too
Have a GREAT Thursday
