Super Tuesday here people and it seems like every week most people are more and more confused....which is great for me cause I like to talk ;-)
1st a quick reminder....it is Bring - A - Friend Week....so if you have a friend or family member that you would like to bring to a class and have them rock and roll with us...invite them down to any of our classes...I promise to be nice ;-)
Workout After Dark is coming at the end of the month...Saturday April 27th at 8pm...make sure you put it in your calendars
Now...Sugar
How many of you have heard sugar is bad?
Well, what is sugar...that really has to be the 1st question
Do you even know what it is?
I have some REAL answers....Facts not Feelings below...and I know all of you won't read all of it...but I wonder...if it's because of your beliefs...
I shared this a while ago:
“This is how humans are: We question all our beliefs, except for the ones that we really believe in, and those we never think to question.”
― Orson Scott Card
What that means is, if you learn what sugar actually is and discover that your beliefs have to change based on FACTS...that might make you uncomfortable...that discomfort creates change and that means I did my job...
But the ones that don't read...and close the email believing what ever their feelings say...don't really want the truth, they want to believe what they want to believe and that is what prevents change
SO....Sugar
Sugar is the generic name for sweet-tasting, soluble carbohydrates, many of which are used in food. The various types of sugar are derived from different sources. Simple sugars are called monosaccharides and include glucose, fructose, and galactose
Monosaccharides, also called simple sugars, are the simplest form of sugar and the most basic units of carbohydrates. They cannot be further hydrolyzed to simpler chemical compounds.
Glucose is a simple sugar with the molecular formula C₆H₁₂O₆. Glucose is the most abundant monosaccharide, a subcategory of carbohydrates. Glucose is mainly made by plants and most algae during photosynthesis from water and carbon dioxide, using energy from sunlight
Galactose, sometimes abbreviated Gal, is a monosaccharide sugar that is about as sweet as glucose, and about 30% as sweet as sucrose
Fructose, or fruit sugar, is a simple ketonic monosaccharide found in many plants, where it is often bonded to glucose to form the disaccharide sucrose. It is one of the three dietary monosaccharides, along with glucose and galactose, that are absorbed directly into blood during digestion
Sucrose is common sugar. It is a disaccharide, a molecule composed of two monosaccharides: glucose and fructose. Sucrose is produced naturally in plants, from which table sugar is refined.
Well what are Carbohydrates?
any of a large group of organic compounds occurring in foods and living tissues and including sugars, starch, and cellulose. They contain hydrogen and oxygen in the same ratio as water (2:1) and typically can be broken down to release energy in the animal body.
What is a Starch?
An odorless, tasteless white substance occurring widely in plant tissue and obtained chiefly from cereals and potatoes. It is a polysaccharide which functions as a carbohydrate store and is an important constituent of the human diet.
What is fiber?
Dietary fiber, also known as roughage or bulk, includes the parts of plant foods your body can't digest or absorb. Unlike other food components, such as fats, proteins or carbohydrates — which your body breaks down and absorbs — fiber isn't digested by your body. Instead, it passes relatively intact through your stomach, small intestine and colon and out of your body.
Fiber is commonly classified as soluble, which dissolves in water, or insoluble, which doesn't dissolve.
Soluble fiber is found in oats, peas, beans, apples, citrus fruits, carrots, barley and psyllium. Insoluble fiber. This type of fiber promotes the movement of material through your digestive system and increases stool bulk, so it can be of benefit to those who struggle with constipation or irregular stools.
SO GOOD OR BAD ARE ABSOLUTE VALUES BUT BASED ON A FEW THINGS INCLUDING OPINIONS AND/OR PURPOSE OR EVEN GOALS
But now that you have a good amount of information...You can gauge...if sugar is good or bad....but if you ask me
Based on my personal and professional opinion...the best answer I can give you is...It Depends ;-)
See you tonight for Super Tuesday showdown
Coach Rafael
