Hello Everyone
Ten years ago today — MLK Jr. Day, 2016 — I checked myself out of the hospital.
My paralysis had already started.
The doctors wanted to keep me overnight.
Run tests. Monitor symptoms.
I refused.
Not because I thought I was fine.
But because I had bootcamps scheduled.
People were counting on me.
At the time, I thought that decision meant I was strong.
Disciplined. Reliable. Built different.
What I didn’t understand yet was this:
My identity was driving my physiology...not the other way around.
What I Know Now (That I Didn’t Then)
Your body does not respond to demands.
It responds to meaning.
It does not move toward outcomes it does not believe are safe.
Back then, my nervous system believed:
Stopping meant danger
Rest meant failure
Slowing down meant losing who I was
So my body complied… until it couldn’t.
And when the system finally shut me down, it wasn’t random.
It was
protective.
This Is the Part Most Fat Loss & “Healing” Advice Misses
Fat loss doesn’t stall because calories are wrong.
Healing doesn’t stall because effort is lacking.
They stall when identity conflicts with physiology.
If your nervous system associates:
- leanness with danger
- hunger with threat
- training with punishment
- progress with loss of control
The brain down-regulates change to preserve coherence.
That’s when you see:
- cravings that don’t match intake
- water retention that won’t move
- stalled scale weight
- “mysterious” metabolic slowdown
The body protects who you believe you are more than how you want to look.
This Is the Shift That Changed Everything
You don’t lose fat by
demanding it.
You lose fat when the body believes it no longer needs protection.
And belief is not optimism.
Belief is biological
permission.
The same is true for healing.
The body cannot heal in a narrative it does not believe.
If the internal story is:
“I’m broken.”
“This won’t last.”
“I always regress.”
The system withholds resources.
Not to punish you
but to keep you consistent with your identity.
Why I’m Sharing This Today
Ten years ago, my actions were already pointing toward what I now teach even though my understanding hadn’t caught up yet.
I believed in:
- responsibility
- rhythm
- strength
- meaning
What I lacked was safety and permission.
In 2026, everything I build
revolves around that recalibration:
Teaching the body it is strong and safe.
Capable and supported.
Moving forward, not bracing for collapse.
That’s the work
now.
Not more force.
Not more punishment.
Not more white-knuckling.
But alignment.
Happy MLK Jr. Day.
